Brian d’Souza is an award-winning sound artist, DJ, music producer and live performer. His compositions fuse field recording from around the globe with electro-acoustic production techniques to create ‘acoustic ecologies’ that are centred on exploring the psychological and physical benefits of sound.

He recently launched a 24-hour radio station Ambient Flo centred on musical well-being to ease the stresses caused by the global pandemic. It received praise from the likes of The Guardian, Rolling Stone and Resident Advisor for its novel ‘Artist Profit Share’ model, with Loud & Quiet proclaiming it represented ‘a new kind of radio station’. It also broadcasts as a monthly radio show on Worldwide FM.

As Auntie Flo, he has cemented his position as a central figure in a ‘new strand of club music fusing electronic and world influences’ (The Wire).

Through his revered his Highlife label, radio show and club night he continues to ‘take World Music into the future’ (The Guardian).

He is a recent winner of the SAY Award for Scottish Album of The Year for ‘Radio Highlife’ (Brownswood 2018) and was awarded as Scottish Electronic Musician of the Year sponsored by the Sub Club and Nordoff Robbins. The sold out Radio Highlife tour culminated in a headline set at Gilles Peterson’s inaugural We Out Here Festival with his multi-ethnic Auntie Flo live band

His influential Highlife party recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, and is widely recognised as introducing a more diverse musical palette to UK dancefloors and beyond, playing tribute to Brian’s own Kenyan and Goan roots. Inverted Audio stated ‘one of the most culturally exciting developments to happen to club culture in the UK…a prosperously based groundwork of music which will pave the way to come for artists in future years.’

Following a ‘Momentum Artist’ award by the PRS in 2015, his 2nd full length album ‘Theory of Flo’ was commended as one of the ‘Albums of the Year’ in various publications, including DJ Mag who awarded it ‘9/10’.

As a DJ and live performer, he has toured extensively around the globe, performing in Asia, Australia/New Zealand, US/Canada, Africa, Latin America and frequently in Europe and the UK. Festival appearances have included Glastonbury, T in the Park, MoMA PS1, Dimensions, Latitude and many more. DJ appearances include Panorama Bar, Good Room, Trouw, Fabric, D-Edge and residencies at Glasgow’s Sub Club and London’s Plastic People. He has also performed two live sessions for BBC Radio 1, five Boiler Room broadcasts and released a variety of DJ mixes for the likes of Resident Advisor, Dekmantel, BBC 6 Music and Beats in Space.

In 2007, he founded playlist curation and music strategy company Open Ear, following an award by NESTA as a ‘Creative Pioneer’. He currently works with thousands of brands around the globe with their music, including Nike, Google, Dr. Martens, Selfridges, UEFA, Tate Modern, and more.
