Dandelion Scotland: Cubes of Perpetual Light

Music of my plants

I was recently commissioned by Dandelion to create a piece of music inspired by nature. The results were pretty wild (!)…

I used PlantWave technology which uses electrodes to pick up the electrical signals that all living things create and converts them into a MIDI signal. I captured four 20 min ‘pieces’ from four herbs - Lavender, Mint, Basil and Sage from my garden and assigned each plant with an instrument to play in the studio - harp, pipes, flute, whistle.

My final piece is part of Dandelion’s ‘Cubes of Perpetual Light’ installation, which is touring around Scotland this year. The music is mixed in quadrophonic sound and then played with these huge vertical farm boxes.
