Sound installation at Glastonbury 2023

The Hayes Pavilion was specially constructed in the Silver Hayes area of the festival, designed to harness the interconnected power of mushroom roots – the extraordinary underground network known as mycelium – and investigate the potential adoption of this biomaterial in the creative industries. I was tasked with creating a soundscape to accompany the project, that would be played throughout the festival.

I used recordings from four mushroom species to create the composition, incorporating some of the sounds I captured for my project at the Chelsea Flower Show. I captured the electrical activity of the mushroom species and then converted those signals into MIDI, which I ran through various FX buses in my studio.

I combined those with recording of interviews with the local community in Pilton, which talked about what ‘Community’ meant to them, to create the 30 min piece.

I intend to release the piece later in 2023.
